Just as there is a “workmanship of risk” involved in crafting one of my sculptural works, there is a “workmanship of risk” involved in crafting one’s life. Risk is an inherent part of building. The final outcome is constantly at risk during the process of making. As an art teacher, my primary function has been to guide my students through a series of art experiences that enable them think critically about cultural issues and recognize their ability to craft quality lives for themselves.
